The Cleanest Skin Care Brand

Cleanest Skin care brand

In the world of clean, natural, and non-toxic, it’s hard to really know sometimes what the cleanest skin care brands are. There are no official definitions of any of those words, and it’s basically left to brands and websites to determine what they identify as clean and natural.

And just because one product from a brand is clean, it doesn’t mean everything from that brand is.

Before we all throw in the towel and head for a glass of organic wine, however, not all is lost.

There are a few skin care lines to share that I’ve tried and certainly qualify to be in the running for cleanest skin care brand – sharing below. But as much as I want ‘clean’ and ‘natural,’ I also want effective – i.e. carrots are natural but maybe not helpful at making my skin glow.

So, what brand hits all the ticks for clean, safe, and effective? It’s Crunchi. It really is the cleanest skin care and makeup brand that I think really works. While there are many other companies out there using similar ingredients, Crunchi goes further to verify the safety and efficacy of their ingredients. Ok, so let’s get to a basic rundown of their “cleanliness”…

The brand identifies itself as “toxin-free.” Their definition: “a product is considered toxin-free if it does not contain any ingredients known to cause harm or health hazard based on available ingredient data and research.” This is generally what a lot of truly clean skin care brands say, but Crunchi then goes a step farther than many other brands…

Each ingredient undergoes a rigorous 30-step screening criteria to be considered safe for use. This includes 3rd party purity testing of all essential oils used in their products. This is important as many essential oils have additives and synthetics added.

A few helpful certifications of their product line include being gluten free and the entire line being Leaping Bunny certified cruelty free.

On that note, all products are vegan except the Hydrogloss Lip Oil which uses beeswax – vegetarian friendly.

Crunchi is more stringent on ingredient selection than other clean brands. Beyond avoiding the 2000+ ingredients omitted by beloved brands such as Beautycounter, Crunchi doesn’t use ethoxylated ingredients. Without getting into the weeds, the ethoxylation process can lead to contamination of carcinogens and neurotoxins.

Where some clean beauty brands use phenoxyethanol as a synthetic preservative, the research hasn’t been able to definitely rule out the possibility of contamination, so Crunchi errs on the side of caution and skips them altogether.

The brand, like many other non toxic makeup brands, also doesn’t use talc, which can be contaminated but can also cause irritation (short-term and long-term) if/when inhaled. Using it on your face is a likely place to lead to inhalation, so it’s best to avoid it.

Crunchi is working to get every one of their products EWG verified. EWG (Environmental Working Group) provides grades for ingredients and products based on ingredient lists grading on a scale for developmental and reproductive toxicity, allergies and immunotoxicity, links to cancers, ecotoxicology, etc. Because of all these checkmarks and tests, receiving the EWG verification is a long process.

At the moment, these Crunchi items are already EWG verified:

And, finally, at least for today – Crunchi performs 3rd party testing on packaging for PFAS, phthalates, and BPA/BPS.

I AM Luminous facial oil is heavenly gentle and soothing. Besides acting as a great face oil to add a bit of moisture, it’s ideal to use after any sort of active skincare and helps to reduce rosacea and pinkness on skin. It’s the best facial oil!
