Nut Butter

Nut Butter

Goodness do I love a good nut butter. Now, don’t get me wrong, we eat a lot of peanut butter, but all nuts have the potential to be turned into just as yummy of a snack, condiment, euphoric experience (just me?), so let’s get to tasting them all!

Nut Butter

Almond butter is the most common non-peanut nut butter and while it’s good, it can sometimes be a little lacking if it isn’t paired with something on the sweeter side. Now that I have a kiddo in schools where all nuts are forbidden (I don’t use that word lightly), sun butter (made from sunflower seeds) is another one with which I’m familiar, but it’s all those other possibilities that get me and my taste buds excited.

My favorites to throw into a mix are pecans and cashews, but I like a mix of nuts, adding them to almonds. Hazelnuts are the nut of choice in Nutella, so you can imagine that’s heavenly. And who doesn’t love a pistachio?!

How do you make nut butter?

Ready for it? Sit down and take notes…place desired nuts in a food processor and blend until you reach your desired consistency. That’s it. So easy, right? The fun part is playing around with flavors and quantities. Unless you’re adding something besides nuts, seeds, and salt, then you’re good to go.

For tips on adding honey, check out my honey peanut butter recipe because the honey can’t be thrown in willy nilly.

Can you Use Other Nuts and Seeds?

So as I mentioned above, I’m am all about this mixed nut and seed butter situation. It’s basically all the yumminess of each of the flavors. This mix uses almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, and sunflower seeds. You could absolutely swap in pecans or peanuts as desired. Play around with this one – it’s really quite tasty.

To store your homemade nut butter, use any sealed container and refrigerate. I love these little hermetic jars.

Can’t get enough? Try a spoonful of nut butter with fresh fruit, as a rice cake topping, on a sandwich, or even in these Ritz peanut butter crackers (in place of the peanut butter). It would also be great on this kids fruit platter!!
